One of our readers (thanks Scott!) pointed us to an intriguing video collection hosted by the University of Texas. Here, you’ll find an archive of the nationally televised program, The Mike Wallace Interview, which aired from 1957 to 1960. And what you get is Mike Wallace (of later 60 Minutes fame) asking probing questions to celebrities of the day. (Also, you’ll see Wallace peddling cigarettes in ways that push the limits of absurdity. See example here.) Interviews include Frank Lloyd Wright, Eleanor Roosevelt, Margaret Sanger, Pearl Buck, Salvador Dali, Reinhold Niebuhr, Aldous Huxley, Erich Fromm, Adlai Stevenson, Henry Kissinger, and Gloria Swanson. See the full list here.

Would anyone know of an email address whereby Mike Wallace can be contacted?
