Johnny Depp Narrates New Keith Richards Autobiography

Right now, Keith Richards’ autobiography, Life, sits atop the Amazon bestseller list. Critics have given it rave reviews, and it’s a downright fun read. (Just download the sample first chapter from the Kindle store, using this software, and you will see what I mean.) The audio version of Life is selling no less briskly, in good part because it features narration by Johnny Depp. It’s a strange combination at first glance, an American actor reading the voice of a British rock star. But it works, and the pairing has a certain rationale to it. Depp and Richards appeared together in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007), and now Depp, stepping back into the director’s chair, has begun work on a Keith Richards biopic, due out in 2011.

You can sample Depp’s narration by clicking here and then clicking the little green audio player appearing beneath the book cover image. And, even better, you can snag a free copy of Life (in audio format), if you register for a 14-day free trial of Audible.com. Once the trial is over, you can continue your Audible subscription (as I did), or cancel it, and still keep the free book. The choice is yours.
