Paul McCartÂney turns 70 today, and he’s lookÂing a whole lot more spry than some of his conÂtemÂpoÂraries. (HelÂlo KeiÂth Richards!) What’s the key to his longeviÂty? It starts with putting on three hour shows. He recentÂly told one newsÂpaÂper, “I’ve been havÂing carÂdio-vasÂcuÂlar exerÂcise for years but it’s on stage. I can’t believe I do a three-hour show withÂout takÂing a breath.”
You could also trace his duraÂbilÂiÂty back to lifestyle choicÂes made in the 1960s. Above, McCartÂney explains to David Lynch how he took up tranÂscenÂdenÂtal medÂiÂtaÂtion when the BeaÂtÂles met MaharÂishi Mahesh Yogi through George HarÂriÂson and his wife in 1967. FamousÂly, The BeaÂtÂles travÂeled to India in ’68 to study TM at the MaharÂishi’s ashram. The trip didÂn’t go well, but McCartÂney stuck with the medÂiÂtaÂtion. Below, we also give you McCartÂney extolling the virtues of a vegÂeÂtarÂiÂan diet, someÂthing he took up decades ago. The clip comes from a longer video he shot for PETA, a non-profÂit he has supÂportÂed for years..
