The Ancient Greeks: A Free Online Course from Wesleyan University

This course offers a “sur­vey of ancient Greek his­to­ry from the Bronze Age to the death of Socrates in 399 BCE. Along with study­ing the most impor­tant events and per­son­al­i­ties, [the course] will con­sid­er broad­er issues such as polit­i­cal and cul­tur­al val­ues and meth­ods of his­tor­i­cal inter­pre­ta­tion.” The course cov­ers Pre­his­to­ry to Homer, The Archa­ic Age (ca. 800–500 BCE), Two City-States: Spar­ta and Athens, Democ­ra­cy, The Per­sian Wars and much more.

You can take The Ancient Greeks for free by select­ing the audit option upon enrolling. If you want to take the course for a cer­tifi­cate, you will need to pay a fee.
