Dei GazteluÂmenÂdi is a young SpanÂish artist. He was comÂmisÂsioned recentÂly to creÂate a covÂer illusÂtraÂtion for the comÂic book magÂaÂzine Xabiroi, and decidÂed to make a time-lapse video of the process. The result is a fasÂciÂnatÂing look at how the artist begins with a rough sketch on paper and then builds layÂer upon layÂer of detail using the Adobe CreÂative Suite softÂware. ThirÂty hours of work are comÂpressed into 11 minÂutes. “A lot of emoÂtion went into this paintÂing,” GazteluÂmenÂdi said on his blog, “since I made it as a gift to one of my budÂdies, who tragÂiÂcalÂly lost a leg in a motorÂbike acciÂdent about a year ago.” GazteluÂmenÂdi was born in San SebasÂtÂian, Basque CounÂtry, Spain in 1987, and began illusÂtratÂing chilÂdren’s books as a teenagÂer. He studÂied aniÂmaÂtion at SheriÂdan ColÂlege in Ontario, CanaÂda, where his theÂsis film was a whimÂsiÂcal tale called Earlth & Moonch. Since gradÂuÂatÂing with high honÂors last year, GazteluÂmenÂdi has been workÂing as a comÂmerÂcial illusÂtraÂtor, speÂcialÂizÂing in creaÂture and charÂacÂter art.
