Hunter S. Thompson Interviews Keith Richards, and Very Little Makes Sense (1993)

Let’s rewind the videotape to 1993. Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson finally gets to interview Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. The conversation is utterly and predictably incomprehensible. But it’s amusing nonetheless.

Decipherable conversation topics include: if J. Edgar Hoover returned to this world, what form might he take? (A worm? a fart? a weasel?) What was Keith doing on Christmas Eve in 1962, 1966, and 1969? And what exactly went down at the infamous Altamont concert in December 1969?

Funny clip. Can’t let Keith’s tip of the hat to John Lennon slip through. “He kicked the door open for us”.

  • Bond says:

    Priceless.
This is during those kinds of moments I regret not taking drugs.

  • Angelabsurdist says:

This is an interesting and comical interview. It’s funny that Keith Richards appears to be more normal than Hunter S. Thompson. Altamont seems to be the turning point that ended the “summer of love”.

If I remember correctly (I was a child in Canada) Meredith Hunter was murdered and three others died accidently. The dark side of human nature, the heart of darkness, and the descent to caveman level occured.
The end of a dream. A California dream.

    Thanks for posting this.

I don’t find it that hard to follow. get the shit out of your ears.

  • S says:

One of those rare occassions where you can find someone more messed up than Keef, and it’s the interviewer!!! That cant have happened to Keith too many times as it’s usually the opposite way around. Keith sounds clear minded in this interview but Thompson’s funny mumbling.……Johnny Depp had him down to a tee, I can see that now.

  • Chris says:

Yeah I think this was easy to follow. I guess if you know how hunter speaks and you know what they’re talking about it’s easy to follow.
