Above, you can watch him teach an Oxford course on Deep LearnÂing, a hot subÂfield of machine learnÂing and artiÂfiÂcial intelÂliÂgence which creÂates neurÂal networks–essentially comÂplex algoÂrithms modÂeled looseÂly after the human brain–that can recÂogÂnize patÂterns and learn to perÂform tasks.
As part of an effort to make ArtiÂfiÂcial IntelÂliÂgence more comÂpreÂhenÂsiÂble to the broadÂer pubÂlic, Google has creÂatÂed an eduÂcaÂtionÂal webÂsite Learn with Google AI, which includes, among othÂer things, a new online course called Machine LearnÂing Crash Course. The course proÂvides “exerÂcisÂes, interÂacÂtive visuÂalÂizaÂtions, and instrucÂtionÂal videos that anyÂone can use to learn and pracÂtice [Machine LearnÂing] conÂcepts.” To date, more than 18,000 Googlers have enrolled in the course. And now it’s availÂable for everyÂone, everyÂwhere. You can supÂpleÂment it with othÂer AI coursÂes found in the RelatÂeds below.

FYI: If you folÂlow edtech, you know the name Andrew Ng. He’s the StanÂford comÂputÂer sciÂence proÂfesÂsor, who co-foundÂed MOOC-provider CoursÂera and latÂer became chief sciÂenÂtist at Baidu. Since leavÂing Baidu, he’s been workÂing on three artiÂfiÂcial intelÂliÂgence projects, the first of which he unveiled yesÂterÂday. On MediÂum, he wrote:
I have been workÂing on three new AI projects, and am thrilled to announce the first one: deeplearning.ai, a project dedÂiÂcatÂed to disÂsemÂiÂnatÂing AI knowlÂedge, is launchÂing a new sequence of Deep LearnÂing coursÂes on CoursÂera. These coursÂes will help you masÂter Deep LearnÂing, apply it effecÂtiveÂly, and build a career in AI.
SpeakÂing to the MIT TechÂnolÂoÂgy Review, Ng elabÂoÂratÂed: “The thing that realÂly excites me today is buildÂing a new AI-powÂered sociÂety… I don’t think any one comÂpaÂny could do all the work that needs to be done, so I think the only way to get there is if we teach milÂlions of peoÂple to use these AI tools so they can go and invent the things that no large comÂpaÂny, or comÂpaÂny I could build, could do.”

Today we’re adding MIT’s course on ArtiÂfiÂcial IntelÂliÂgence to our ever-growÂing colÂlecÂtion, 1,700 Free Online CoursÂes from Top UniÂverÂsiÂties. That’s because, to paraÂphrase AmaÂzon’s Jeff Bezos, artiÂfiÂcial intelÂliÂgence (AI) is “not just in the first inning of a long baseÂball game, but at the stage where the very first batÂter comes up.” Look around, and you will find AI everywhere–in self driÂving cars, Siri on your phone, online cusÂtomer supÂport, movie recÂomÂmenÂdaÂtions on NetÂflix, fraud detecÂtion for your credÂit cards, etc. To be sure, there’s more to come.
FeaÂturÂing 30 lecÂtures, MIT’s course “introÂduces stuÂdents to the basic knowlÂedge repÂreÂsenÂtaÂtion, probÂlem solvÂing, and learnÂing methÂods of artiÂfiÂcial intelÂliÂgence.” It includes interÂacÂtive demonÂstraÂtions designed to “help stuÂdents gain intuÂition about how artiÂfiÂcial intelÂliÂgence methÂods work under a variÂety of cirÂcumÂstances.” And, by the end of the course, stuÂdents should be able “to develÂop intelÂliÂgent sysÂtems by assemÂbling soluÂtions to conÂcrete comÂpuÂtaÂtionÂal probÂlems; underÂstand the role of knowlÂedge repÂreÂsenÂtaÂtion, probÂlem solvÂing, and learnÂing in intelÂliÂgent-sysÂtem engiÂneerÂing; and appreÂciÂate the role of probÂlem solvÂing, vision, and lanÂguage in underÂstandÂing human intelÂliÂgence from a comÂpuÂtaÂtionÂal perÂspecÂtive.”
