The Best Japanese Commercial Ever? James Brown Sells Miso Soup

What’s the best Japanese commercial ever? The Feed gives the blue ribbon to this 1992 commercial featuring James Brown, the Godfather of Soul. “Sex Machine” put in the service of selling miso soup. How can you not like that (even if you’re cringing just a little)?

Meanwhile, our vote (and, let’s be frank, we’re not exactly experts here) goes to a clip uploaded to YouTube a day before the massive earthquake & tsunami hit Japan. Bach meets some amazing architectural engineering in the woods. And it all ends up being an ad for Sharp’s SH-08C handset. More on the commercial here

I believe that is Beethoven, not Bach. Very nice video, though.

It’s is based on Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.

It’s otherwise called Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, BWV 147.
