And now for a good use of AI. The UK-based teleÂcom comÂpaÂny O2 has develÂoped a chatÂbot (“named Daisy”) that perÂforms a noble task. ImperÂsonÂatÂing an elderÂly grandÂmothÂer, the chatÂbot engages with interÂnet fraudÂsters and then sysÂtemÂatÂiÂcalÂly frusÂtrates them and wastes their time. As part of a demo, notes The Guardian, Daisy wastÂed a series of fraudÂsters’ time for up to 40 minÂutes each–“when they could othÂerÂwise have been scamÂming real peoÂple.” The AI sysÂtem was trained on real scam calls–according to VirÂgin Media O2’s marÂketÂing direcÂtor, Simon Valcarcel–so it “knows exactÂly the tacÂtics to look out for, exactÂly the type of inforÂmaÂtion to give to keep the scamÂmers online and waste time.” If you have three minÂutes to spare, you can lisÂten to Daisy clown a scam artist above.
