Now showÂing in the YouTube ScreenÂing Room: “Peter and Ben is a touchÂing and quirky stoÂry of how two “black-sheep” form an unusuÂal and endurÂing bond.” The 10-minute short film was named Best DocÂuÂmenÂtary at the Aspen Shorts Fest 2008. It’s added to our YouTube playlist. Here it goes:
Rather slick trailÂer. (And got to wonÂder how filmÂing the pretÂzel scene didÂn’t hurt.) “W,” OlivÂer Stone’s new biopic, hits the theÂaters this fall.
Just a quick reminder. StartÂing today (SepÂtemÂber 23), you can downÂload Michael Moore’s new feaÂture film — SlackÂer UprisÂing — via the web for free. This is unforÂtuÂnateÂly only availÂable to US and CanaÂdiÂan resÂiÂdents, and it will remain free for three weeks. You can get more info and downÂload the film here.
Released last month, this SunÂdance 2008 selecÂtion speaks directÂly to AmerÂiÂcan finanÂcial misÂsteps:
I.O.U.S.A. — One Nation. Under Stress. In Debt.
PretÂty timeÂly. Watch a short trailÂer here or a longer intro below, and get more on the film here.
“What can BarÂbie teach us about culÂture? More than you might think. In this short docÂuÂmenÂtary, direcÂtor Tiffany Shlain explores modÂern JewÂish idenÂtiÂty through the unusuÂal lens of the BarÂbie doll. The Tribe was an offiÂcial selecÂtion of the 2006 SunÂdance Film FesÂtiÂval.”
PerÂsonÂalÂly, the film strikes me as rather facile, but what does my opinÂion count next to that of SunÂdance? …
Michael Moore is getÂting wise to the virtues of free/open culÂture. StartÂing SepÂtemÂber 23, you can downÂload his new film — SlackÂer UprisÂing — via the web for free. The unforÂtuÂnate rub is that this downÂload will only be availÂable to US and CanaÂdiÂan resÂiÂdents, and it will remain free via the web for three weeks. You can get more info and sign up to downÂload the film here. Below, you can also preÂview the film, which (surÂprise, surÂprise) ties into the AmerÂiÂcan elecÂtion.
Though not a mass media film, DarÂius Goes West won 28 film fesÂtiÂval awards durÂing 2007. The movie tracks DarÂius Weems, who has Duchenne MusÂcuÂlar DysÂtroÂphy, as he travÂels across the US to get his wheelÂchair worked over by MTV’s “Pimp My Ride.” And now it has been released on DVD. The filmÂmakÂers are lookÂing to sell one milÂlion DVDs and raise $17 milÂlion for Duchenne musÂcuÂlar dysÂtroÂphy, all in order to find a treatÂment or cure. You can learn more about the film and buy a DVD here. Also watch a video clip about the movie and the fund raisÂing driÂve below. The cause is good. Have a look. Thanks Collin for the heads up on this…
