In case you missed it, this New York Times SunÂday MagÂaÂzine stoÂry offers a great examÂple of How We Live/ÂDance/ÂFilm/ÂSelf-Finance these days.
What we have here is a sevÂen minute colÂlabÂoÂraÂtion between direcÂtor Jacob KrupÂnick and clasÂsiÂcalÂly-trained balÂlet refugee Anne Marsen. Shot guerilÂla-style on the StatÂen Island FerÂry, the video feaÂtures Marsen’s gidÂdy pasÂtiche of hip hop, balÂlet, modÂern and jazz dance. The soundÂtrack is also a pasÂtiche of sorts, an excerpt from mashup DJ Girl Talk’s new album, “All Day.”
GrupÂnick postÂed the clip above as a teasÂer on the crowdÂfundÂing site KickÂstarter in JanÂuÂary, hopÂing to raise enough monÂey to make it into a full-length dance film. He met his fundraisÂing goal withÂin 6 days, and the team starts shootÂing in April.
A note: It takes about two minÂutes for the action to realÂly kick in, and if you’re lisÂtenÂing to it from an office, be sure to turn the volÂume down first.
